The world of allied healthcare, having an outstanding CV is a must. Here are 3 key tips from our talented and experienced recruiters on how healthcare professionals working as physical therapists, occupational therapists, imaging techs, medical technologists and other allied modalities can write a great resume.

1—Say What You Need to Say

Resumes do not have to be one page. If you have experience, in allied healthcare or otherwise, you need to describe it. This is your first introduction to your prospective employer, and your resume should stand out. Be specific and descriptive about your education and your experience, and avoid being vague. If you are partnering with a recruitment firm, then your resume may be configured for you using your application, so be sure to spend adequate time on completing this.

2—Cover Letters are Important

A well-written cover letter should accompany your CV – in cases where you don’t need a cover letter, having one may help enhance your resume or staffing firm application by providing more detail about yourself.

  • Your cover letter should briefly describe why you have the skills for this position and any timeline sensitive information. Brag about yourself!
  • Be articulate. Have a friend or colleague proofread your work to make sure there are no grammatical errors. Use your spell-checker!

3—Formatting Helps with Readability

Remember that employers sometimes have hundreds of CVs they need to read through before selecting candidates to interview. Make sure your resume is well-organized and easy to read. If you’re working the Epic International Staffing, you’ll have lots of help in these areas!

  • Contact Information
Ensure your personal contact information is correct and is clearly displayed at the top of your CV. Contact information should include your name, location, email, and phone number.
  • Objective
Include an Objective statement. Note your preferred setting, population you have treated, and especially the strengths you have that relate to your career as a physical therapist, occupational therapist, speech language pathologist, or other allied healthcare professional.
  • Employment History
List each of your relevant jobs, in chronological order with your latest job first, with locations, dates, and responsibilities

Utilize bullet points to outline different responsibilities at each job. Bullets make your CV easy to read, and this is important!

Describe your clinical experience. Include a description of work completed (observation vs. hands-on experience, setting, patient type, and any duties performed). Be detailed.
  • Education
Include your school, degree, graduating date, and testing date for boards.
  • References
Include references on your resume. This saves the employer the time of having to ask for them later.

Have at least five references. Most employers require three, but getting more will help get faster feedback to the employer.
